Phoenix Contact sought a reliable battery system to fine-tune their renowned 'MINT' Energy Management System (EMS). C-battery provided a modular indoor solution that delivered precisely the level of control and compactness required.
Technical requirements
Five years ago, tech pioneer Phoenix Contact launched its own EMS. Today, with 600+ projects under its belt, MINT is a renowned industry staple.
To keep the system at the cutting edge, it is rigorously tested at their Zaventem site, which serves as a dedicated testing facility. For this setup, Phoenix Contact needed a battery solution that was easy to integrate and offered full control.
Compact and safe
Rather than using an outdoor container, we collaborated on a compact indoor installation: a battery rack featuring 75 kWh of storage and a 60 kW inverter. Measuring just 50 cm wide and 90 cm deep, the rack fits into almost any space. This means it can be installed in a climate-controlled basement, where the hardware is safe, secure, and completely out of sight.

"C-battery didn't just act as a supplier, they were hands-on partners who actively leaned into co-creation and continuous development." - Frederik Leempoels, Product Manager MINT at Phoenix Contact
Fire safety is always a top priority for indoor battery storage. To address this, C-battery uses cell-level monitoring and individual suppression systems per module to prevent thermal runaway. With a secondary rack-level backup and the ability to integrate into existing fire alarms, safety is built-in at every level.

Local partner
Beyond the technical specifications, C-battery’s local presence and modular approach were key factors for Phoenix Contact. Close collaboration led to a rapid installation, and the system’s flexibility makes future adjustments simple.
“When the battery initially triggered error messages due to a control issue, C-battery provided immediate support. A quick module replacement prevented damage and restored system stability. This level of responsiveness sets them apart, as it’s by no means a given in the industry.” - Frederik Leempoels, Product Manager MINT at Phoenix Contact
The system’s scalable architecture allows for future growth: extra battery units can simply be added in parallel to increase capacity as needed.
