Don’t Leave Your Battery Storage System Out in the Cold

Battery energy storage systems are gaining ground. More and more often, containers and outdoor cabinets appear in parking lots, industrial zones, or alongside the warehouses of logistics companies. But what if we moved these systems indoors? It’s a question that embarked a special mission at C-battery - and we delivered with success. As the only company in Belgium, we now offer a fully indoor battery storage system that meets the strictest fire safety standards. Thanks to this innovation, we can now tailor our solutions even more precisely to the specific needs and infrastructure of our customers. Each project receives a customized solution, perfectly aligned with its individual requirements.

Compact by Design
Choosing between an indoor or outdoor solution depends strongly on a company’s core activities and priorities. Do they, like logistics operators, prefer to maximize warehouse space for revenue-generating operations? Or do they have unused indoor areas that could be repurposed for battery storage?
Even though almost any indoor area can host a battery storage system, many spaces unfortunately remain underutilized. From a storage room or part of a warehouse to even a basement: when we say “indoor,” we truly mean inside. Our installation easily adapts to diverse environments while maintaining optimal performance. Even without natural light, it delivers maximum efficiency. All that’s needed is a stable internet connection and a consistent indoor temperature of around 25°C. Easy, right?
Our systems integrate seamlessly into a wide variety of spaces. With a compact design — just 50 cm wide, 90 cm deep, and 2.30 m high — they can easily pass through narrow doors, stairwells, or basement entries. Another major advantage is space efficiency: the system can be placed neatly in a corner, without being obtrusive. This makes highly flexible and accessible installation possible. Especially compared to traditional container solutions and outdoor cabinets, which typically require larger modules and offer less freedom in placement.
Fire-Safe and Future-Ready
Customers often ask whether an indoor battery solution poses fire safety risks. The answer is simple: absolutely not. How can we be so confident? By comparing them to batteries used in electric vehicles. Not only do we use far safer and more stable cell technology with minimal explosion risk, but we’ve also integrated an advanced multilayer safety system featuring several built-in protection mechanisms. These include detection and corrective systems at the cell, module, and system levels, which continuously collect and analyze data. When abnormal voltage, temperature, or current values are detected, the system automatically intervenes by limiting power output or, if necessary, by shutting down completely.
But that’s not all. Our indoor solution also includes integrated smoke and heat detectors, overvoltage detection, and no fewer than fourteen modules, each equipped with its own individual fire suppression system. To prevent fire propagation between cells or modules, these extinguishing units are mounted as close to the cells as possible. In addition, every individual rack features a secondary fire protection circuit. In case you already have a fire detection and alarm system in place, easily connect it to our installation via an Input/Output interface. In short: our systems are beyond safe.
Looking Ahead
So, what does the future hold? Increasing energy density remains high on our agenda, as does the further optimization of our systems for specific indoor environments. For instance, we are developing configurations suitable for technical rooms such as medium-voltage cabins, allowing customers to deploy our solution even more flexibly.
We are also working on deeper integrations with Energy Management Systems (EMS) from both data and energy providers. In doing so, we’re already building the energy solutions of tomorrow: safe, efficient, and ready for every indoor space.
